World Marathon Championships took place in Glentress Forest, Scotland. The Canyon Northwave MTB Team leaves with a silver medal. It was won by Martin Stošek. Marc Stutzmann also had a great performance, finishing 4th and Andreas Seewald 10th. Stefanie Dohrn finished 19th in the women's race.
Just from the start of the 96-kilometre race, Martin was close to the front. At the 70th kilometer, three riders broke away and Martin was among the medal aspirants. He fought for gold until the last downhill, where Brazilian Henrique Avancini made a small gap. Martin arrived at the finish with a loss of 28 seconds in 2nd place.
"Everything was decided on the last climb, or rather on the last descent, where I wasn't good enough for Avancini, it wasn't about technique, more about performance. He missed me and I wasn't even able to hold the handlebars anymore. In the end, it was not a bit," explained the 29-year-old biker, who followed up on his friend and team manager Kristián Hynek, who has a silver medal from the 2019 World Championships.
"I'm very happy with the race, I felt very good, I'm glad I managed to fine-tune the performance. The track was difficult, very technical, and in the wet conditions, so I'm quite happy that I was able to get such a result in conditions that don't suit me completely. I am very happy about the medal, before the race I thought and hoped that there would be a badge," commented Martin, who won his second medal at the World Championships. He won the first one in 2020 in Sakarya, Turkey.
A great performance was also shown by the Swiss rider Marc Stutzmann, who finished in a great 4th place and recorded the greatest success of his career. In 10th position was Andreas Seewald, the 2021 World Champion, who returned to racing after a long illness.
Stefanie Dohrn finished the women's race in 19th position.
Andreas Seewald immediately left Scotland for the United States, where he will take part in the legendary Leadville 100 MTB Race. Martin Stošek and Marc Stutzmann will represent the team at the Swiss Epic pairs stage race, which starts upcoming week.
